Overview

For die Gestalter, we developed h-och for Kantonsspital St. Gallen: a mobile app for dynamic workspace management.

The app allows employees from different departments to book flexible desks and coordinate their office presence more efficiently. This helped support a hybrid working setup in which many people work part-time and office space has to be used more intelligently.

What we built

The project was not just a mobile interface, but a complete booking system with app, API, and booking logic.

Cross-platform mobile app with Ionic

We built the application for both iOS and Android using Ionic, allowing one consistent product experience across platforms.

Flexible seat booking for multiple departments

Employees can book desks dynamically instead of relying on permanently assigned workspaces.

Laravel backend and booking logic

We implemented the API and the logic behind availability, reservations, and workspace management in Laravel.

Reliable support for hybrid work

The system helps optimize office capacity where teams work with changing presence patterns and part-time schedules.

The challenge

The challenge was to make dynamic desk booking simple enough for daily use while keeping the backend logic reliable and maintainable.

  • 1

    Usability in daily operations

Booking and managing desks had to be quick and understandable for employees across different departments.

  • 2

    Reliable booking logic

Availability, reservations, and workspace allocation had to work consistently in everyday use.

  • 3

    Hybrid work requirements

The system had to support changing office presence and optimize physical workspace usage over time.

  • 4

    Cross-platform delivery

The product needed to run cleanly on both iOS and Android without splitting development into separate native apps.

Technical implementation

We developed the frontend app with Ionic and the backend with Laravel.

This gave the project a technically lean but robust setup: a mobile application for iOS and Android on top of a dedicated API and booking layer. The result is a focused operational tool rather than a broad workplace platform.
